Graduate course in Substantive Law and Process – Videira

In May 2013 marked the beginning of the specialization course in Substantive Law and Process, sponsored by the Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina – UNOESC, in Videira. The Mediation and Arbitration module will be ministered by attorney Paulo Osternack Amaral, beginning in June 2013.

Public hearing on Concessions and PPPs (Public-Private Partnerships) in transportation financing – Senate – Brasilia

On June 10th, the Infrastructure Services Committee of the Senate will begin the second round of public hearings on “Investment and Management: untying the logistic knot of the country”. The event will include the participation of the partner Fernão Justen de Oliveira, who will address the topic of “Concessions and Public-Private Partnerships in transportation financing”. The event will be broadcasted by the TV Senado channel, starting at 06:00 PM.

International Colloquium on res judicata – Portugal

Eduardo Talamini will be one of the speakers at the international colloquium dedicated to res judicata, to be held at the Escola de Direito da Universidade Minho, in Braga, Portugal, on June 24th and 26th. He will deliver a lecture on Res Judicata and the Brazilian Constitution.

Fifth Latin American Conference of Arbitration – Buenos Aires

On June 13th, Cesar A. Pereira Guimarães will be one of the speakers at the 5th Latin American Conference of Arbitration, which will address the arbitration investments without any bilateral investment treaties (BITs) or the protection of the ICSID system. Monopoly and competition – creating and sharing essential facilities

Since the constitutional amendment promoted in Brazil during the  1990’s, the creation of competition environments has been seen as the best solution to develop the most closed economic sectors. The stimulus for investments in infrastructure and the sharing of existent essential facilities (natural monopolies) has come up frequently. In contrast, the risk of dominant position and the substitution of public monopolies by private ones, which are equally or even more dangerous, arise. VII Congress of the Arbitration Center of the Chamber of Commerce and Portuguese Industry – Lisbon

Cesar A. Guimarães Pereira will also participate in in the congress of the Arbitration Center of the Chamber of Commerce and Portuguese Industry, on June 28th. As the President of CAIEP – Board of Mediation and Arbitration of the Federation of Industries of the State of Paraná, he will discuss the proposed amendments to the regulation of the Portuguese chamber. Price Registration System – Changes Brought by Decree 7.892/2013
