Legalization of the Fortune Games: IV Brazilian Gaming Congress (São Paulo – June 25 to 27)

The legalization of games in Brazil was the subject of the IV Brazilian Gaming Congress, held in São Paulo from June 25th to 27th. The partner Fernão Justen de Oliveira participated in the event as moderator of a group discussing law and regulation of the sector (check here). The discussions will result in the elaboration of an Open Letter to contribute to the discussion about the impacts and benefits that the legalization of the games will bring to Brazil.

Mediation in Public Administration (Itajaí – June 30)

Câmara de Arbitragem e Mediação de Santa Catarina – CAMESC is hosting a Mediation in Public Administration debate on June 30th, at 8:30 a.m. The partners Cesar Pereira and Rafael Wallbach Schwind will participate, as well as the Counselor of the Court of Accounts of Santa Catarina, Dr. Dado Cherem. Simultaneous Public Hearing: ADI 5.527 (Brazilian Civil Rights Framework for the Internet) and ADPF 403 (WhatsApp’s block)

Brazilian Civil Rights Framework for the Internet (Law 12.965/2014) and the block of WhatsApp application by judicial rulings were themes of the Public Hearing held by the Federal Supreme Court on June 2nd and 5th. The event was innovative in both format and methodology. Lawyer Miguel Godoy, who accompanied the Public Hearing, wrote about the main arguments presented and discussed by the experts.

Extension of contract in Law 13488/2017 (JOTA – June 12)

Law 13.448 establishes general guidelines for the extension and rebidding of partnership agreements signed based on the Investment Partnerships Program (PPI) in the road and rail sectors. Check here the text prepared by Marçal Justen Filho, published in June 12 on JOTA.

Launch: Comments on the Civil Procedure Code

Editora Saraiva is launching the book Comentários ao Código de Processo Civil, in four volumes. In volume 2, Eduardo Talamini commented the judgment according to the status of the case (articles 354 to 357 – click here). In volume 4, Eduardo Talamini and Felipe Scripes Wladeck wrote about general rules regarding appeals (articles 994 to 1,008 – click here).

Justen’s Column at JOTA

As of June 30, Justen, Pereira, Oliveira e Talamini will maintain a monthly column at the website JOTA. The articles produced by Justen’s lawyers will be published on the penultimate Friday of each month.
