Lecture on Arbitration at LFG

Administrative Improbity and the New Code of Civil Procedure (Curitiba – 6-7 December 2016)

Between 6-7 December 2016, the IV chapter of Current Issues of Administrative Law in Debate, promoted by OAB/PR – ESA, will take place in Curitiba. On the 7th at 7pm, Justen associate Paulo Osternack Amaral will speak about procedural issues of administrative improbity in the New Code of Civil Procedure. See more.

State-owned Companies” Legal Status book launch (São Paulo – 16 November 2016)

On 16 November 2016, a seminar was held to launch the book State-owned Companies’ Legal Status, edited by partner Marçal Justen Filho and published by Thomson Reuters – Revista dos Tribunais. The book contains articles submitted by several Public Law experts with comments to the provisions of Law 13.303/2016 that governs the legal status of State-owned companies and joint-capital companies. The event will be hosted by CCBC – Brazil Canada Chamber of Commerce at its headquarters and renowned jurists will particiate. Click here to see the full program.

Changes to the Law on Public Bids and Government Contracts (PLS 559/2013): proposals presented to IASP for discussion

On 3 and 21 October 2016, the São Paulo Lawyers Institute (IASP) hosted debates between experts as well as a seminar about the current bill on public bids and government contracts, main subject of PLS 559/2013 that was approved on 9 November 2016 by the Senate’s respective Special Committee. The events were organized by the Public Bid Law Reform Committee, of which Marçal Justen Filho and Cesar Pereira as well as other partners and associates are members. Book launch: Administrative Improbity

On 11 November 2016, the book Administrative Improbity: current and controversial issues (ed. Justice Mauro Campbell Marques) was launched. Partner Marçal Justen Filho wrote a chapter in the book called Temporary procurement and administrative improbity setting. The book launch happened at STJ’s Cultural Space. See more.

Lecture on the Regulation of the Urban Environment

Justen associate Guilherme F. Dias Reisdorfer was invited by the Centre for Studies on Urbanistic Law of the Escola Paulista de Magistratura to give a lecture on the regulation of the urban environment on 24 November 2016 at the Escola Paulista de Magistratura in São Paulo.

FDI Moot 2016 (Buenos Aires)

In the first week of November (3-6), the 2016 edition of the Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot (FDI Moot) was hosted by the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. Amongst 53 participating teams, the team representing PUC-SP – coached by Justen associate Luísa Quintãoplaced 4th in the competition. Even though investment treaty law and arbitration are hardly explored by Brazilian practitioners, Brazil had two representatives in the Top 5 Universities at the FDI Moot. See more.

Urgency Plan Forum: obstacles to infrastructure (Curitiba – 22 de novembro)

On 22 November 2016, the Urgency Plan Forum for the future of infrastructure in Brazil – promoted by Gazeta do Povo and sponsored by CCR – will take place. Partner Marçal Justen Filho will participate in the panel “Obstacles to infrastructure in Parana: what alternatives should be taken?”. The event will take place at 1.30pm at Radisson Hotel in Curitiba.

VII Petrônio Muniz Brazilian Arbitration Competition

The VII Petrônio Muniz Brazilian Arbitration Competition – promoted by CAMARB and sponsored by Justen, Pereira, Oliveira & Talamini – took place from 21 to 24 October 2016. The moot case involved a conflict arising out of the exclusion of a corporation’s minor shareholder. Justen associates Paulo Osternack Amaral, Diego Franzoni and Luísa Quintão participated in the competition as arbitrators. Mr. Franzoni, author of Intra-corporate Arbitration (Revista dos Tribunais, 2015) also arbitrated quarterfinal rounds. Justen interns Caroline Paglia Nadal and Izabela Moriggi Costa participated as speakers on behalf of UFPR and intern Ana Carolina Bariviera Barros was one of PUC-PR’s speakers.
